The aim of Stop the 77 is to increase appropriate child-dog interactions in order to decrease the amount of stress that dogs can feel around children and the bites that could follow. The program is simple yet still comprehensive and really entertaining for the kids.
With 50% of children bitten by the time they are 12 years old, and 77% of all bites coming from the family or a friend’s dog, the importance of teaching kids how to behave safely around the dogs they spend time with cannot be understated.
Dog Stars In addition to teaching dogs their manners, I will be teaching something even more important for dog-owning families and kids everywhere. With the help of Dog Stars, a program designed specifically for elementary school-aged kids, I hope to bring fun and energy into educating the younger members of our community about the right way to behave around dogs. The program is simple yet still comprehensive and really entertaining for the kids! The kids watch videos and play games that help them really understand dogs, and then take home colorful, interactive handouts to help educate their parents too.” |
I speak "doggie"
While most bite prevention programs focus on what to do when a stray or aggressive dog approaches a child, I Speak Doggie, developed by thefamilydog.com, is a simple, fun and interactive program that focuses on teaching kids how to stay safe around the dogs they know and love. |
I have started contacting Schools, Child Day Cares, MOPS groups, etc... in the Jefferson County, Douglas County areas to present these programs. I also present to adults about becoming experts at reading dog language and keeping their dog/child safe.
Dog + Child Safety is just as important to families without dogs, or dog owners without kids of their own!
