New or Expecting Parents:
As new or expecting parents you will spend months preparing for your new baby decorating the baby's room, buying or rearranging furniture, strollers, high chairs, bouncers, toys..., the list goes on. Parents are especially careful to prepare older siblings for baby's arrival as well. But what about Fido, the family dog?!
At Camp Biscuit we are dedicated and passionate about sharing ideas, methods and solutions from world renowned Family Paws Parent Education (FPPE) to help prepare new or expecting parents and parents of toddlers for life with dog + new baby/toddler.
Are you and Fido ready for the big day?
1. How do you plan to introduce and integrate your infant and dog?
2. Does your dog consistently follow commands, even in situations with lots of distraction?
3. Does your dog have attention seeking behaviors such as pawing, jumping, or barking?
4. Do you know the signs your dog is giving you when he is uncomfortable or stressed?
5. Does your dog startle easily to sudden movements or noise?
These are just a FEW questions to answer confidently before bringing home a new baby (or new puppy). Many parents wonder how and when they should introduce their dog and baby and just "wing it" only to find themselves wishing they had planned better. For the dog, it's not just about meeting the baby, but also about new noises, moving objects, and all that equipment taking up space that once belonged to him/her.
Got toddler?
From the time baby starts to crawl and gradually grows into the toddler stage, Fido continues to encounter new experiences and situations, and may need direction from you. Are you aware of Fido's signals telling you he's uncomfortable? Even if you are on child #2 or #3, every new addition to the family has an effect on your dog just as it changes dynamics for the rest of the family.
Enrich your new life with help from Camp Biscuit Training & Consulting to carefully plan and safely integrate your dog's and baby's life together. Family Paws Parent Education methods have been successfully parent tested around the world for more than 10 years.
